The Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Spencer Howard on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with right shoulder impingement.

The move is retroactive to Aug. 8, and left-hander John King has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Howard, 26, is 2-4 with a 7.41 ERA in 10 appearances (eight starts) this season. He will be eligible to return Aug. 23.

Despite appearing in 10 games for Round Rock, the 27-year-old King has spent the majority of the season with the major league club. In 29 relief appearances with the Rangers, the southpaw is 1-3 with a 4.60 ERA.

King has not pitched for Texas since July 5 and will be available for the Rangers’ game against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
