MLB: Twins acquire closer Jorge Lopez from Orioles

Baltimore Orioles closer Jorge Lopez was traded to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday in exchange for a quartet of pitchers.

The Orioles received right-handers Yennier Cano and Juan Nunez as well as left-handers Cade Povich and Juan Rojas in the deal.

MLB Network reported Lopez, who had 19 saves and an ERA of 1.68 with Baltimore in 2022, was one of multiple arms on the radar of the Twins.

Lopez, 29, has a 4-6 record in 44 games this season. The 2022 All-Star in his third season with the Orioles after breaking into the league with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Lopez also spent time with the Kansas City Royals, starting 25 games total in 2019 and 2020 with a combined 6-13 record.

He went 3-14 as a starting pitcher with the Orioles last season.

Cano, 28, is 1-0 with a 9.22 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the Twins this season. He has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Povich, 22, is currently ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the organization, per MLB.com. He has posted a 6-8 record with a 4.46 ERA in 16 starts for High-A Cedar Rapids this season. He has been optioned to High-A Aberdeen.

Nunez, 21, owns a 0-2 record with a 4.85 ERA in eight games (seven starts) for the FCL Twins in 2022.

Rojas, 18, is 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA in eight games (five starts) for the Florida Complex League Twins in 2022.
