Formula One star Lewis Hamilton is part of the new ownership group of the Denver Broncos, the team announced Tuesday.

In June, the group, led by Walmart heir Rob Walton, agreed to buy the Broncos from the Pat Bowlen Trust for a record $4.65 billion. The deal is expected to be approved by NFL owners before the start of the 2022 season.

“We’re delighted to welcome seven-time Formula One world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group,” Walton said in a statement. “He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team and a fierce advocate for global equality, including in his own sport.

“With over 100 race wins, Lewis is considered the most successful Fl driver of all time. His resilient spirit and standard of excellence will be an asset to the ownership group and the Broncos organization.”

Hamilton took to social media to express both his — and his dog’s — excitement over the move.

“Excited to join an incredible group of owners and become a part of the @Broncos story!!” he wrote on Twitter. “Honored to work with a world class team and serve as an example of the value of more diverse leadership across all sports. Roscoe already thinks he made the team.”

Hamilton, 37, joins former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as part of the ownership group. Rice, 67, was added as an investor in June.

The addition of Hamilton was well received by new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson.

“Congrats (Lewis),” Wilson wrote on Twitter. “Winning is a Habit.”
