David Blitzer is purchasing a share of the Cleveland Guardians with an eventual path to majority ownership, according to multiple reports Thursday.

Through his company, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, Blitzer is part owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Recently he was part of a group that purchased Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer, and his other properties include the English soccer club Crystal Palace.

Major League Baseball approved Blitzer’s purchase Thursday, per the report. He will own between 25-30 percent of the Guardians at first, while having the right to increase that to a controlling stake several years from now.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed to ESPN that a transaction involving Guardians ownership was approved.

Paul Dolan remains the club’s majority owner for now. He is also their chairman and CEO.
