NCAAB: Surging Notre Dame rolls over Georgia Tech

Dane Goodwin scored 17 points and Notre Dame overpowered Georgia Tech 90-56 on Saturday in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in South Bend, Ind.

Blake Wesley scored 15 points, Prentiss Hubb had 13 and Cormac Ryan contributed eight points and 10 rebounds for Notre Dame (21-8, 14-4 ACC), which is 7-1 in its past eight games.

Jordan Usher scored 16 points for Georgia Tech (11-18, 4-14), which has lost six of its past seven.

Notre Dame shot 57.1 percent from the field (32-for-56), including 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from 3-point range. The Fighting Irish dished out 21 assists and outrebounded Georgia Tech 42-29.

Georgia Tech was 4-for-20 from 3-point range.

Notre Dame made 18 of its 27 shots in the first half, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range, and led 46-27 at halftime. The Fighting Irish then started the second half with an 8-2 burst to take a 54-29 lead with 15:34 remaining. They led 59-31 with 14:29 to go before Georgia Tech used a 9-2 surge to get within 61-40 with 12:18 remaining.

But the Yellow Jackets couldn’t get any closer. Notre Dame took a 76-50 lead with 5:37 remaining en route and coasted to the win, which completed a sweep of the two-game season series between the teams.

Notre Dame scored nine of the game’s first 11 points and led 18-10 with 13:19 remaining in the first half. The Fighting Irish then started to pull away late in the first half, going on a 10-2 run to grab a 36-19 lead with 3:35 left until halftime.
