Inter Miami CF announced Wednesday that the club has acquired longtime United States Men’s National Team defender DeAndre Yedlin and signed him to a four-year deal.

Yedlin’s contract will run through 2025. There is a club option for 2026.

Inter Miami landed Yedlin on a “free transfer” through the league’s allocation rankings, which is geared toward players who are returning to the league from overseas’ stints. Yedlin spent the past seven years playing overseas after two seasons with the Seattle Sounders from 2013-14.

Yedlin, 28, was an All-Star for Seattle as a rookie in 2013 and had one goal and six assists in 56 matches (55 starts).

“I’m thrilled that we’re able to bring a player of the quality of DeAndre to Inter Miami,” team sporting director Chris Henderson said in a news release. “He is a very talented, exciting, and dynamic player on the pitch and an experienced winner who is also a positive character in the locker room that will help us improve our roster.”

Yedlin has appeared in 71 matches for the U.S. national team and played in the 2014 World Cup.

Yedlin began playing overseas in 2015 and had stints with Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Newcastle United. He spent the 2021 season with Turkish squad Galatasaray and his contract with that club was terminated last week by mutual consent.

Now he’s looking for a long stay in South Florida with a club co-owned by soccer legend David Beckham.

“I want to win everything with the club,” Yedlin said. “If that’s not your goal as a player then you’re not in it for the right reasons. I want to win. This club is one of those that has international attention, so it’s important that the club wins and consistently does well. That’s what I want to help this club achieve.

“I want to win championships, I want to win U.S. Open Cups, I want to win Champions Leagues. That’s the main focus: to win, to keep improving, to help the younger guys, and to keep pushing forward.”
