The Colorado Rapids agreed Monday to transfer defender Auston Trusty to Arsenal of the English Premier League.

As part of the deal, Trusty will remain with Colorado on loan until July 17.

Trusty, 23, is the second Rapids player heading to Europe. Earlier this month, the club reached a deal to send midfielder Cole Bassett to Feyenoord Rotterdam, a club in the top Dutch division.

“We remain committed to bringing through the top young players from Colorado and across the United States and to providing them with a platform to flourish, achieve success in MLS and earn the chance to make a move to Europe,” Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a statement.

Trusty, a Pennsylvania native, started 33 games in 2021, scoring a goal with three assists while leading the Rapids among non-goalkeepers with 2,970 minutes played.

Trusty as four seasons of MLS experience with the Philadelphia Union (2018-19) and Rapids (2020-21), recording three goals and five assists in 97 games (94 starts).

He becomes the second American player Arsenal has added from MLS during the January transfer window. Matt Turner, a goalkeeper for the New England Revolution and the U.S. Men’s National Team, has also agreed to join the London-based club this summer.
