DePaul has forfeited its home game against No. 15 Seton Hall, originally scheduled for Thursday, due to an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within the Blue Demons’ program.
Both DePaul and Seton Hall are 9-1 to start the year, but both have had to call off multiple games due to the coronavirus.
The Blue Demons canceled their Chicago-area rivalry game against Northwestern Saturday because of COVID-19 protocols. They were not healthy enough to resume play in time for their Big East opener against Creighton Monday.
The Creighton and Seton Hall games go down as forfeits for DePaul, per Big East policy, but they do not affect its overall record for the season.
Similarly, Seton Hall hasn’t played since defeating Rutgers 77-63 on Dec. 12. It canceled a nonconference game against Iona because of COVID-19 before having to forfeit its Big East opener against St. John’s, which also was slated for Monday.
Seton Hall has been assigned a win in the conference standings, according to the program, meaning the school was healthy enough to resume play Thursday. The Pirates will have a 1-1 Big East record before playing a minute against a league opponent in 2021-22.
