Alabama wide receiver John Metchie III left the Southeastern Conference Championship Game late in the first half and was ruled out for the contest’s remainder on Saturday.

With the No. 3 Crimson Tide locked in a 17-17 game with No. 1 Georgia and 56 seconds left in the half, Metchie injured his left leg in a non-contact play — planting and making a sharp cut on a route.

He returned from the locker room after the halftime break with his team, walking and without his helmet, and was ruled out for the rest of the title clash.

Metchie caught six passes for 97 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young for a 14-10 lead with 9:46 left in the second quarter.
