The league-leading Minnesota Lynx have lost three in a row and frustration is mounting ahead of Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
Rookie star Olivia Miles voiced as much after Minnesota’s 93-81 loss to the New York Liberty on Friday night.
“It’s frustrating at times when you feel like you’re getting hounded everywhere and pushed off your spots, and thrown on the ground and stuff,” Miles said. “But ultimately, we can’t rely on the refs to win us the game. And you gotta go strong. You gotta finish your contact.”
Minnesota (31-10) will attempt to snap the skid against the Sun (10-31), who are also trying to escape a losing streak.
The Sun have dropped their last four games and are just 2-8 in their last 10, a stretch that includes a lopsided 103-59 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Thursday.
This is the Sun’s final year in Connecticut before the team relocates to Houston for 2027. They have one more home game at Mohegan Sun Arena next Thursday against Toronto.
“We are focusing on our job and again on what we can control, and what we can control is the present,” Connecticut coach Rachid Meziane said.
The Sun and Lynx split their previous two meetings this season, with both games decided by six or fewer points. Connecticut won 90-89 on July 6 but Minnesota bounced back two days later with an 86-80 win.
Olivia Nelson-Ododa is averaging 10.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Sun. She scored 13 in the loss to the Dream on Thursday. Brittney Griner is averaging 13.2 points per outing but is listed as day-to-day with a knee injury. Griner poured in 29 in Connecticut’s win over Minnesota earlier this year.
Miles continues to thrive for the Lynx and is a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year. She scored 20 points in Friday’s loss to the Liberty, adding eight rebounds and five assists. She leads the team in scoring (19.7) and assists (6.0).
