The Indiana Fever signed Mercedes Russell on Monday, one week after fellow center Damiris Dantas underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her left knee.
Russell, 31, averaged 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds during 20 games off the bench last season with the Los Angeles Sparks.
A two-time WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm, Russell has averaged 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 209 career games (79 starts) with the New York Liberty, Storm and Sparks. The 6-foot-6 Tennessee product was selected by the New York Liberty in the second round of the 2018 WNBA Draft.
