Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane has been removed from the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol and could be in line to play against the visiting Ottawa Senators on Monday.

Kane has missed Chicago’s last four games after being placed in protocol on Oct. 23.

The winless Blackhawks certainly could use the boost after limping out to an 0-7-2 record to start the season, however coach Jeremy Colliton stopped short of saying Kane would be in the lineup Monday.

“Well, he’s off protocol, that much is true,” Colliton said Monday. “We didn’t even know he was going to be able to skate with the team this morning. He has to do a couple of tests just to get cleared, so unexpected that he was out there. He could play, but that’s pretty early to make that call.”

Kane, 32, has recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in five games this season. The former Hart Trophy recipient has 1,093 points (405 goals, 688 assists) in 1,034 career games since being selected by Chicago with the top overall pick of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Assistant coach Tomas Mitell and video coach Matt Meacham were also removed from protocol on Monday.
