Chance Moore and Honor Huff each scored 17 points to lead West Virginia to a 91-49 nonconference win against Coppin State on Tuesday in Morgantown, W. Va.

Brenen Lorient contributed 12 points and Treysen Eaglestaff tallied 11 points and eight rebounds for the Mountaineers (7-2), who won their second straight game.

Hassan Perkins led Coppin State (2-9) with 11 points. Chris Morgan added seven points and Demariontay Hall had five points and 11 rebounds.

Lorient gave the Mountaineers the game’s first basket, but Coppin State answered with a 9-0 run. Morgan’s tip-in gave the Eagles an 9-2 advantage.

After West Virginia pulled within 11-9, Coppin State coach Larry Stewart picked up two technical fouls at the 13:29 mark and was ejected.

Huff missed three of the four technical free throws, but the one he made triggered a 15-2 run that gave the Mountaineers a lead they’d hold the rest of the game. Moore’s steal and fast-break layup put West Virginia up 24-13 at the 9:38 mark as the Mountaineers built their advantage with transition buckets.

West Virginia held a 20-4 edge in fast-break points and built its first-half lead to 40-26 on Huff’s 3-pointer. However, the Eagles closed the half with a 6-0 scoring spurt to trail 40-32 at halftime.

A Huff 3-pointer prompted a Coppin State timeout as West Virginia opened the second half on a 7-2 run to push its advantage to 47-34. A DJ Thomas layup with 13:59 left wrapped up 14 straight points by the Mountaineers as they seized control of the game at 56-34.

The Mountaineers held a 45-36 rebounding advantage and also piled up points in the paint. West Virginia outscored Coppin State 36-22 inside.

Williams hit a 3-pointer that cut the West Virginia lead to 60-41 with 9:50 to play. It was the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the game as West Virginia reeled off an 11-3 run to take a 71-44 lead with 7:24 left in the game.
