St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras is done for the season due to a shoulder injury and was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.

Contreras exited Monday’s loss against the Cincinnati Reds in the bottom of the seventh inning due to right biceps tightness. One day later, imaging noted a mild shoulder strain for the 33-year-old who is finishing his third season with the Cardinals.

Contreras batted .257 with 20 homers and a career-high 80 RBIs in 135 games this season. It was his first season as a full-time first baseman after being primarily a catcher in his previous nine seasons.

Contreras was a three-time All-Star during his seven-year stint with the Chicago Cubs and is a career .257 hitter with 172 homers and 548 RBIs in 1,078 games.

St. Louis also recalled infielder Jose Fermin from Triple-A Memphis. The 26-year-old played in 23 games for the Cardinals earlier this season and batted .298 with one homer and five RBIs.
