Detroit Lions defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike will miss the 2025 season following surgery for an ACL injury.

Head coach Dan Campbell said Sunday that Onwuzurike underwent knee surgery during the offseason.

The team put Onwuzurike on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday without divulging details of his injury.

“Levi’s surgery was significant, but it needed to be done,” Campbell said. “Out of his control, but needed to be done, so he will miss the season.”

Onwuzurike, 27, started 10 of 16 games played last season and had 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits. He has 3.5 sacks in 42 games with Detroit since joining the club in 2021.

He missed the 2022 season with a major back injury.

Rookie Tyleik Williams is expected to play a prominent role in 2025. The Lions selected the Ohio State product with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2025 draft.

“You don’t like to lose anybody,” Campbell said. “Certainly, losing Levi, that hurts, but it helps that we’ve got Tyleik, so we’ve got a little bit of balance here.”
