The New York Islanders and defenseman Ryan Pulock agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension.

Pulock confirmed the extension Thursday morning, per amNY. TSN reported the deal was worth nearly $50 million.

“It’s exciting,” Pulock said. “I just wanted to really be able to focus on this season and clear my head of that and focus on what we need to accomplish here. It’s really exciting for me.”

TSN also reported late Wednesday that the first five years of Pulock’s new deal include a no-trade clause, while the final three have a limited no-trade agreement.

Pulock has one year remaining on his current contract for the Islanders, who signed fellow defenseman Adam Pelech to an eight-year, $46 million deal in August.

“I think if you look at our careers, we’ve come up together and we’ve been able to play with each other the last few years,” Pulock said of the future with Pelech, per amNY. “I think we kind of complement each other and it’s a great situation for both of us to be able to play here on the Island as D partners.”

Pulock, 27, recorded 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) in 56 games last season. He has 125 points (33 goals, 92 assists) in 290 career games since being selected by the Islanders with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
