A month after experiencing a setback following Tommy John surgery, Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber is expected to make a rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

A 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner, Bieber underwent surgery in April 2024 but felt soreness during a bullpen session in early June. He completed a successful bullpen session in Cleveland on Sunday and is set to make the next step toward his return in two days.

Bieber, 30, made a rehab start on May 31 and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings. But he was scratched from his next rehab start and shut down after experiencing soreness.

A two-time All-Star and Triple Crown winner in 2020, Bieber was 2-0 with 20 strikeouts in 12 scoreless innings before undergoing Tommy John surgery. For his career, Bieber is 62-32 with a 3.22 ERA and 958 strikeouts across seven seasons — all with the Guardians.

Bieber agreed to a one-year, $14 million contract with Cleveland in December that includes a $16 million player option for 2026.
