The Texas Rangers placed veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with inflammation in his lower back.

The team planned to announce a corresponding roster move prior to Thursday’s game but will play with 25 players in Boston on Wednesday night.

Pillar, 36, was the Opening Day center fielder for the Rangers but has appeared in just two of the team’s last seven games.

Pillar is batting .237 with two doubles and one RBI in 18 games. He is a career .255 hitter with 114 homers and 469 RBIs in 1,232 games with 10 teams across 13 seasons. He spent his first six-plus seasons with Toronto.
