Kellen Mond threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Greg Ward to lift the previously winless San Antonio Brahmas past the D.C. Defenders 24-18 on Sunday in Washington.

The Brahmas (1-3) led 12-0 after the first quarter as Aidan Robbins scored the first of his two rushing TDs and Mathew Sexton returned a punt 83 yards for another score.

The Defenders (3-1) trailed 18-12 at halftime and tied the game on quarterback Jordan Ta’amu’s 7-yard TD run with 10:10 left in the third quarter. The conversion pass failed.

Mond, who found Ward for the winning score with 5:56 remaining in the third quarter, was 14-of-20 passing for 121 yards and no interceptions. Ta’amu was 19 of 31 for 300 yards, a 39-yard TD to Briley Moore-McKinney and no picks, and he rushed for a game-high 74 yards on 10 carries.
