NWSL: NWSL roundup: Kansas City Current, Orlando Pride, Angel City remain unbeaten

Lo’eau LaBonta converted a penalty kick and the Kansas City Current remained unbeaten with a 2-0 blanking of the host San Diego Wave on Saturday night.

Debinha scored her 50th career NWSL goal for the Current. Debinha’s tally came on a right-footer in the 16th minute and gave the Current a 1-0 lead.

Lorena made four saves for the Current (4-0-0, 12 points), who are the fifth team in NWSL history to win their first four games. This season’s Orlando Pride also won their fourth straight on Saturday.

Also in the first half, a hand ball was called against San Diego’s Kristen McNabb. After a review confirmed it, LaBonta stood at the spot in the 25th minute and sent a right-footed, penalty-kick boot into the top left corner.

Kailen Sheridan had two saves for the Wave (1-2-1, 4 points), who lost their second straight match.

Orlando Pride 1, Seattle Reign FC 0

Barbra Banda scored in the 41st minute and visiting Orlando made it hold up, knocking off Seattle.

The tally kept the Pride (4-0-0, 12 points) unbeaten. Orlando has outscored its opponents 11-1.

Anna Moorhouse made five saves for Orlando. The Pride goal was set up by Summer Yates. She delivered the cross to Banda, who was stationed just in front of the goal and tapped it in with her left foot.

Claudia Dickey made three saves for the Reign (1-2-1), who lost their second consecutive contest.

Angel City FC 3, Houston Dash 1

Macey Hodge and Riley Tiernan scored first-half goals to help Angel City past host Houston.

Alyssa Thompson also scored for Angel City (2-0-2, 8 points), who won their second straight game and continued their unbeaten start.

Barbara Olivieri scored for Houston (1-2-1, 4 points). Her left-footed tap-in came in the 61st minute.

Thompson put the game away with a dash down the left sideline before she headed toward the center of the field. She then drilled a right-footer that went off the hand of Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell and into the net in the 86th minute. Campbell made three saves.

Hodge (13th minute) and Tiernan (29th) both scored on long shots from just outside the box. Angel City’s Angelina Anderson made two saves.

Washington Spirit 2, Racing Louisville FC 0

Leicy Santos and Ashley Hatch scored goals to lift Washington over host Louisville.

Aubrey Kingsbury made four saves for the Spirit (3-1-0, 9 points), who won their second straight game.

Santos took a free kick from well outside the box in the 58th minute and sent a right-footed blast above the Louisville wall and into the top left corner of the net. Hatch tacked on another tally 17 minutes later by sending a header into the net.

Katie Lund had four stops for Louisville (1-2-1, 4 points), which has lost two of its past three games.
