Atlanta United announced the signing Friday of homegrown defender Dominik Chong Qui through 2028 with an option for 2029.

Chong Qui made his first career MLS start last Sunday against New York City FC. At 17 years and 90 days, he became the second-youngest player in Atlanta history to start a match.

“I really believe in him,” head coach Ronny Deila said after Chong Qui’s March 1 debut. “We have a player for the future, and not only for the future, he can do something now. … He just needs to keep training and pushing, because he has something special.”

Chong Qui joined the club’s youth ranks in 2022. He scored two goals in 17 matches (12 starts) last season with the MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Atlanta United 2.
