Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cosuins was ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first period with a lower-body injury.

Less than eight minutes into the contest, the left legs of Cousins and Toronto’s Jacob Quillan collided head on, sending both to the ice. Quillan, who was making his NHL debut in his hometown, skated off on his own, while Cousins was assisted to the bench.

Cousins, 31, has five goals and eight assists in 47 games this season. The 11-year journeyman signed as a free agent in the summer after playing two seasons with the Florida Panthers.
