Jakub Dobes made 32 saves and Alex Newhook scored a go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 road win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Juraj Slafkovsky and Joel Armia scored for the Canadiens, and Nick Suzuki had two assists.

The Canadiens are on a six-game (5-0-1) points streak and are 11-2-1 in their last 14 games. The Habs’ red-hot stretch includes an 8-2-0 record in their last 10 away games.

Dobes stopped 32 of 33 shots, continuing the dream start to his rookie season. The goalie is 4-0-0 with a spectacular .963 save percentage in his first four NHL games, all of which have been on the road.

With the score tied 1-1 at 9:15 of the third period, Newhook redirected Lane Hutson’s point shot past a screened Jake Oettinger. The goal stood after a video review, as officials confirmed that Newhook had not committed a high-sticking offense on the play.

Hutson earned an assist, giving the rookie defenseman 10 points (one goal, nine assists) over a six-game points streak.

Oettinger stopped 21 of 23 shots for the Stars, who lost for just the second time in their last 10 games (8-2-0).

Jason Robertson scored the Stars’ only goal, giving Dallas an early lead 3:50 into the first period. Dobes stopped Evgenii Dadonov’s initial shot, but Robertson was in position to deposit the rebound into the open net.

Just 47 seconds later, the Canadiens found the equalizer. Cole Caufield took the puck deep into the Stars’ zone, then sent a nice backhand pass in front to Slafkovsky for the conversion.

Both teams had several good chances during a scoreless second period, and Dobes had to be particularly sharp given Dallas’ 15-9 shot advantage. Dobes’ big period included a pair of huge stops on Wyatt Johnston, as well as another impressive stop on Logan Stankoven’s breakaway.

The Stars also outshot Montreal 11-4 in the third period, but Dobes held steady. Armia cemented the victory with an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left.
