Portland Timbers legend Diego Chara signed a deal through the 2025 season that includes a club option for 2026, the team announced.

Next season will be Chara’s 15th with the Timbers. The midfielder is the club’s all-time leader in games played (399) and minutes (34,636).

Chara, 38, has recorded 12 goals and 34 assists since making his MLS debut with Portland in 2011.

“Diego Chara is a legend at this club. The way he conducts himself, the way he behaves, and the way he trains every day is an incredible example to every footballer,” Timbers coach Phil Neville said in a news release. “It is an absolute honor and pleasure to work with him every single day.”

Chara helped Portland win the 2015 MLS Cup, was an All-Star in 2019 and an MLS Best XI choice in 2020.

Chara had a $500,000 base salary in 2024, according to the MLS Players Association database.
