The Columbus Crew transferred midfielder Aidan Morris to English side Middlesbrough, The Athletic reported Tuesday.

In a separate move, the Crew acquired French midfielder Dylan Chambost and signed him through the 2026 season with a club option for 2027.

Morris, 22, is expected to remain with Columbus for the short term. He was moved to Middlesbrough for an estimated $4 million transfer fee, per the report.

Morris left the United States’ U-23 team, which is preparing for this summer’s Paris Olympics, in order to travel to England to complete the deal with the second-division club.

In 13 matches this season, all starts, Morris has scored two goals with four assists. In 80 games (65 starts) over four seasons with the Crew, Morris has six goals and 12 assists. He missed the 2021 season with a knee injury.

Chambost, who was acquired via transfer from AS Saint-Etienne of France’s Ligue 1, will be available when the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 18.

“Dylan is an experienced and versatile player who possesses technical and tactical abilities that will suit our style of play,” Crew general manager Issa Tall said. “We are pleased to add a player of his caliber and skillset, which matches the specific profile we identified with (coach) Wilfried Nancy for our roster.”

Chambost, 27, recently helped Saint-Etienne get promoted to Ligue 1, playing every minute of a two-leg playoff series. Since joining the team in 2022 for his second stint, he has scored nine goals in 61 matches.

Chambost, who scored 20 goals in 74 matches for Saint-Etienne B from 2016-19, made his debut with Saint-Etienne in January 2018. He joined Troyes in 2019 and scored two goals in 70 matches.
