NHL: Oilers’ Sam Carrick fined for slashing Panthers’ Dmitry Kulikov

The NHL fined Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Carrick $2,213.54 on Tuesday for slashing Florida’s Dmitry Kulikov in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday in Sunrise, Fla.

The incident occurred late in the third period after Kulikov landed a hard hit on Carrick, who retaliated with a slash between the Panthers defenseman’s legs.

Carrick received a two-minute minor penalty and a 10-game misconduct with 1:59 remaining in Florida’s 4-1 win, which gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

Carrick, 32, was acquired by Edmonton from the Anaheim Ducks as part of a three-team trade also involving the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline. He recorded two goals and three assists in 16 games with the Oilers in the regular season and has one assist in 10 playoff games.

The fine was the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

Game 3 is Thursday night in Edmonton.
