Chase Garbers connected with Cody Latimer from 10 yards out with three seconds to play to cap a wild comeback as the San Antonio Brahmas escaped with a 20-19 win against the host Memphis Showboats on Saturday.

With under a minute to play, the Brahmas had trailed 19-8, but a 5-yard touchdown from Garbers to Jontre Kirklin with 48 seconds left cut the margin to 19-14. The three-point attempt failed.

But San Antonio converted the fourth-and-12 after that to steal another possession (the UFL’s equivalent of an onside kick), and Garbers drove his squad down to the Memphis 10-yard line with 8 seconds left. On the final play, Garbers rolled right and found Latimer breaking open halfway through the end zone on a cross for the winning score.

The comeback came on the heels of a miserable offensive performance in the first half in which the Brahmas managed just 27 total yards in falling behind 13-0. Garbers connected with Marquez Stevenson for a 10-yard touchdown and with John Lovett on a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 16-8 in the third quarter.

Case Cookus threw a 2-yard touchdown to Daewood Davis to give Memphis a 7-0 lead, and Matt Coghlin added four field goals.

Battlehawks 27, Renegades 24

Andre Szmyt made good on a 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift host St. Louis to a victory over Arlington.

The Renegades were up 24-21 following De’Veon Smith’s 3-yard rushing touchdown with 10:44 left in the third quarter. Szmyt tied things up with a 47-yarder with 6:47 left in the fourth ahead of his game-winning kick.

AJ McCarron completed 19 of 29 passes for 248 and two touchdowns for the Battlehawks, who got 104 yards and a score on 14 carries from Mataeo Durant. Luis Perez threw for 233 yards and a score on 21-of-29 passing for Arlington.
