The Arizona Diamondbacks officially announced Friday that they have agreed to a one-year contract with a one-year player option with left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

Montgomery will receive $25 million this season. He can lock in a salary of at least $20 million and up to $25 million for 2025 depending on the number of starts he makes.

If Montgomery makes 10 starts this season, he’ll have the right to opt out of the contract and become a free agent.

“It’s a super talented group of guys, you can tell just by the way they ran all the way through the playoffs,” Montgomery said. “It’s a tight-knit group and good winning culture. Wanted to be a part of it.”

The Diamondbacks optioned Montgomery to Triple-A Reno to pitch himself into shape. He missed spring training while his agent Scott Boras looked to negotiate a deal in what was a slow free-agent market for Montgomery.

Montgomery is expected to join the big-league club by mid-April.

Montgomery, 31, had a stellar postseason last year while helping the Texas Rangers win the World Series. He went 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in six games (five starts).

His lone postseason setback came against the Diamondbacks in Game 2 of the World Series. He allowed four runs and nine hits over six innings.

The Rangers beat the Diamondbacks in five games.

Montgomery was 10-11 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 starts last season while splitting time between the St. Louis Cardinals (21 starts) and Rangers (11).

He is 38-34 with a 3.68 ERA in 141 appearances (140 starts) over seven seasons with the New York Yankees (2017-22), Cardinals (2022-23) and Rangers.
