Brandon Royval beat Brandon Moreno by split decision on Saturday night in their main event flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night in Mexico City.

In a close fight, Royval (16-7-0) landed 177 total strikes and 145 significant strikes to take the cards 48-47, 46-49, 48-47.

A two-time former champion, Moreno (21-8-2) is now 0-2 in his home country of Mexico and has lost his last two fights overall.

Royval, an American who lost to UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja via unanimous decision on Dec. 16 at UFC 296, called out Pantoja — who attended the event in Mexico City — for a rematch.

In the co-main event, Brian Ortega (16-3-0) of the U.S. beat Yair Rodriguez (16-5-0) of Mexico by submission with an arm-triangle choke. The featherweight match ended at 0:58 of the third round.
