The New York Giants filled two coaching vacancies on Tuesday with a pair of former members of the Tennessee Titans’ staff.

The Giants named Shane Bowen as the team’s defensive coordinator after he spent the past three seasons in the same position with Tennessee. Also on Tuesday, New York tabbed former Titans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly to be its tight ends coach.

Bowen, 37, effectively replaces Wink Martindale. The Giants mutually parted ways with Martindale in January after two seasons with the club.

The Giants’ defense under Martindale finished 27th overall in 2023 but tied for first in the league in turnovers created.

Under Bowen, the Titans ranked 13th best in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (107.7) and 18th best in total offense allowed (335.1 yards) and passing yards (227.4).

Bowen spent his first three seasons with the Titans in 2018-20 coaching the team’s outside linebackers. He also was a defensive assistant with the Houston Texans (2016-17) after working three seasons as a linebackers coach with Kennesaw State (2013-15).

Kelly, 37, was fired last month after his second season on former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel’s staff. He was the passing-game coordinator for Tennessee in 2022.

Kelly has 10 seasons of coaching experience in the NFL, including a stint as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans (2019-21). He joined the Texans in 2014 and coached their tight ends from 2017-18.

With New York, Kelly will look to improve a TE unit that managed only two touchdown catches — one each by Darren Waller and Lawrence Cager — during the 2023 season.
