Luke Hughes scored 28 seconds into overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils past the host Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 on Thursday.

Jack Hughes had one goal and two assists and Tyler Toffoli contributed one goal and one assist. Alexander Holtz also chipped in with one goal for the Devils, who won their third in a row.

Nico Hischier was credited with two assists. Devils goaltender Akira Schmid made 44 saves.

Morgan Frost, Sean Walker and Tyson Foerster each scored one goal for the Flyers. Travis Konecny had two assists. Carter Hart stopped 31 shots.

The Devils went ahead 1-0 at 3:10 of the first when Holtz fired a shot over Hart’s shoulder.

Sean Couturier had a terrific scoring chance at 14:35, but Schmid was in position to make the save.

New Jersey soon broke out on a 2-on-1 break and Jack Hughes connected for a 2-0 advantage at 15:12.

Philadelphia’s Garnet Hathaway was given a five-minute major penalty plus a game misconduct for boarding at 16:15 for a hit against Luke Hughes. The Flyers managed to kill the penalty as Hart made several stellar stops.

Bobby Brink skated in with a nifty backhand shot at 6:27 of the second. However, Schmid slid across the crease to deny the potential goal with a skate save.

Hart extended his glove and snagged a shot out of the air by Toffoli from point-blank range at 8:56.

The Flyers sliced the deficit in half, 2-1, as Frost took advantage of a rebound and scored on the power play at 11:49 of the second period.

The Devils took a 3-1 lead at 4:31 of the third period when Toffoli scored his 12th of the season, this time on the power play.

Philadelphia closed within 3-2 at 15:00 when Walker ripped a shot through traffic and past Schmid.

The Flyers had a two-man advantage for 36 seconds at 17:10 after Konecny was slashed.

Foerster redirected a shot from the point by Scott Laughton to equalize at 3-3 with 50.9 seconds left.
