The New York Yankees reinstated right-handed reliever Keynan Middleton from the 15-day injured list on Friday.

The Yankees optioned right-hander Yoendrys Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

The Yankees (81-78), eliminated from playoff contention, began a season-ending three-game series at the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.

Middleton, 29, had inflammation in his right shoulder and was placed on the IL Sept. 6, retroactive to Sept. 3.

New York acquired Middleton from the Chicago White Sox ahead of the trade deadline. Middleton is 2-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 50 games this season, including a 0.68 ERA in 11 appearances for the Yankees. He struck out 17 and walked just six with one earned run in 13 1/3 innings for New York.

Gomez, 23, made his major league debut on Thursday when he pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in a 6-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
