The Colorado Rapids traded veteran forward Michael Barrios to the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday.

In exchange, the Rapids received the Galaxy’s 2024 first-round pick and up to $50,000 in conditional 2024 general allocation money based on Barrios reaching certain performance metrics this season.

“We’re grateful to Mikey for his many contributions to the club during his time with us,” Rapids president Padraig Smith said. “He played a key role in our club-record rise to the top of the West in 2021 and was a model representative of our club off the pitch. We wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on this next stage of his career.”

Barrios, 32, joined the Rapids ahead of the 2021 season and recorded 12 goals and 16 assists in 87 MLS matches (51 starts).

The Colombia native has recorded 43 goals and 61 assists in 266 matches (207 starts) with FC Dallas (2015-20) and Colorado.

The Rapids also announced the signing of midfielder Sidnei Tavares, who arrives on an 11-month loan from FC Porto in his native Portugal.

The loan runs through June 30, 2024 and includes an option for Colorado to make the transfer permanent. Tavares will occupy U22 initiative and international roster slots.

“We’re delighted to add a player of Sidnei’s quality to our roster,” Smith said. “Sidnei is a young, athletic midfielder who is technically gifted and has the attributes to immediately make an impact on both sides of the ball. We look forward to welcoming him to the club and getting him acclimated as quickly as possible.”

Tavares, 21, came up through the Leicester City academy in England, appearing in two Premier League matches with the club. He made 38 appearances with FC Porto B in Portugal’s second tier, recording four assists.
