The Washington Mystics acquired center Queen Egbo, the 10th overall selection in the 2022 WNBA Draft, from the Indiana Fever in exchange for center Amanda Zahui B. on Tuesday.
Egbo, 23, started 31 of 33 games for Indiana as a rookie in 2022, but her numbers have taken a hit while coming off the bench this season for the Fever, who now have 2023 No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston as their anchor.
The 6-foot-4 Egbo posted 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in 2022. In 16 games this season, she has 2.9 points and 4.0 boards per contest.
“This trade was an opportunity to acquire a young post talent that can complement our other post players,” Mystics general manager Mike Thibault said in a news release. “… Queen is an elite rebounder, one of our biggest weaknesses, and she has been a good shot blocker and defender in her time at Indiana.”
Zahui B., 29, will join the fifth team of her WNBA career after appearing in 12 games in her first season with Washington.
In eight seasons with the Tulsa Shock (2015), New York Liberty (2016-20), Los Angeles Sparks (2021) and Mystics, Zahui B. has averaged 6.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She had 2.0 points and 1.4 boards per game while averaging 7.8 minutes in 12 appearances (one start) for Washington.
