INDY: Alex Palou sails to win at GMR Grand Prix

Alex Palou put forth a dominating effort Saturday, cruising to a 16.8-second victory at the GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Palou, who started third, easily outpaced Pato O’Ward to claim his first victory of the IndyCar season. Palou led 52 of the 85 laps.

“We honestly knew we had a fast car since (first practice) yesterday,” Palou said. “The car has been amazing all weekend. Once we knew we were starting on reds (Firestone alternate tires) we were going to fight for a win.”

Palou’s last victory came at the season-ending race at Monterey last September.

Alexander Rossi took third, Christian Lundgaard claimed a season-best fourth and Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top five.

Palou is now No. 1 in the IndyCar Series points standings, with a 174-168 lead on O’Ward.
