Portland Timbers midfielder Eryk Williamson will have surgery to repair a torn right ACL, the team announced on Tuesday.

The season-ending procedure is scheduled for Wednesday in Portland, Ore. His estimated recovery timeline is nine months.

It is the second serious knee injury for Williamson, who tore his left ACL in August 2021.

The timing of the latest injury is not clear as Williamson played a full 90 minutes against FC Dallas on April 1 before experiencing swelling after the match.

“Eryk is an extremely important component within the team who was performing at a high level again, making it difficult news to accept,” said Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy. “We will support Eryk both on and off the field during his recovery process, and we are confident that he will make a full recovery in reestablishing himself within the team again next season.”

Williamson recorded two assists in six starts this season. In six seasons with the Timbers, he has four goals and 17 assists in 70 MLS matches (50 starts).
