Former U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu is unsure when she’ll return to action after sustaining two torn ligaments in her left ankle at the Miami Open this week.

Andreescu, who is ranked 31st in the world, took to social media on Wednesday to give her fans an update.

“Results show that I’ve torn 2 ligaments in my left ankle. It’s tough to say exactly how long it will take, but let’s just say it could’ve been much worse!!” Andreescu wrote on Twitter. “I’m going to take it day by day, and I am optimistic that with the right work, rehab, and preparation, I’ll be back on court soon.

“Rehab process has already started and will continue to give updates. Love you all.”

Andreescu was forced to retire from her fourth-round match against 18th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia in Miami on Monday.

The 22-year-old Canadian made a move for a ball in the third game of the set and collapsed to the court in pain. She was unable to put weight on her leg and was taken off the court in a wheelchair.

Andreescu won the 2019 U.S. Open and reached as high as No. 4 in the world.
