LOL: Cloud9 win fifth straight match in LCS Spring Split

Cloud9 won its fifth straight match and kept its share of the top spot in the standings in the League Championship Series Spring Split on Friday.

Cloud9 (12-3) defeated Team Liquid (6-9), while FlyQuest (12-3) knocked off Immortals (3-12). The third- and fourth-place teams, Evil Geniuses (10-5) and Golden Guardians (9-6), respectively, also posted victories, as did 100 Thieves (7-8).

The 10 teams in the top North American League of Legends circuit will play every other team twice through March 17. The first- through fourth-place teams will then head to the upper-bracket semifinals of the double-elimination playoffs. The fifth- and sixth-place teams will enter the playoffs in the lower bracket.

The winner and runner-up in the playoff final will earn berths in the Mid-Season Invitational along with other teams from LoL leagues worldwide. The LCS Spring Split carries a $200,000 prize pool, with the champion earning $100,000.

Cloud9 played on blue in its 29-minute win over Team Liquid. Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol of South Korea led the winners with a kills/deaths/assists ratio of 5/0/6. No player for Liquid had more than one kill.

FlyQuest’s win, also on blue, lasted 33 minutes. Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang of South Korea paced FlyQuest at 5/0/8, while Edward “Tactical” Ra of the U.S. finished at 5/3/5 for Immortals.

Evil Geniuses prevailed over Counter Logic Gaming (7-8) in 38 minutes. Victor “FBI” Huang, an Australian/Chinese player, dominated with a K/D/A of 11/4/5 for the winners, who were playing on blue. Niship “Dhokla” Doshi, and American/Indian player, finished at 2/5/3 for CLG.

Golden Guardians, yet another winner on blue, disposed of TSM (7-8) in 31 minutes. Kim “Gori” Tae-woo of South Korea and Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes of the U.S. posted nearly identical K/D/As of 8/1/9 and 8/1/6 for the Guardians. Jason “Wild Turtle” Tran of Canada registered a 3/2/2 ratio for TSM.

In the shortest match of the day, the Thieves played on red and beat last-place Dignitas (2-13) in 28 minutes. Can “Closer” Celik of Turkey finished at 6/0/8 for the winners, while no Dignitas players had more than one kill.
