LOL: Cloud9 catch FlyQuest for first place in LCS Spring Split

Cloud9 climbed into a first-place tie in the League Championship Series Spring Split on Thursday by beating Evil Geniuses while FlyQuest lost to Team Liquid.

Cloud9 and FlyQuest are both 11-3, and Evil Geniuses are in third at 9-5.

Liquid, playing on red, topped FlyQuest in 27 minutes. South Koreans Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon and Park “Summit” Woo-tae each finished with 7-1-8 kill-death-assist ratios for Liquid. Another South Korean, Jeong “Impact” Eon-young, paced FlyQuest at 5-3-1.

Cloud9 prevailed on red against Evil Geniuses behind a 5-2-4 K-D-A ratio from South Korea’s Jang “EMENES” Min-soo. South Korea’s Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho registered a 2-0-4 K-D-A ratio for Evil Geniuses.

The 10 teams in the top North American League of Legends circuit will play every other team twice through March 17. The first- through fourth-place teams will then head to the upper-bracket semifinals of the double-elimination playoffs. The fifth- and sixth-place teams will enter the playoffs in the lower bracket.

The winner and runner-up in the playoff final will earn berths in the Mid-Season Invitational along with other teams from LoL leagues worldwide. The LCS Spring Split carries a $200,000 prize pool, with the champion earning $100,000.

In the other Thursday matches, 100 Thieves earned a 24-minute win on blue against Golden Guardians, TSM produced a 44-minute victory on blue over Immortals, and last-place Dignitas, competing on red, upset Counter Logic Gaming in 45 minutes.

Turkey’s Can “Closer” Celik amassed a 7-2-5 K-D-A ratio for 100 Thieves, while the United States’ Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes ended up at 2-2-2 for Golden Guardians.

Canada’s Jason “WildTurtle” Tran logged a 10-3-6 K-D-A ratio for TSM. Sweden’s Onur Can “Bolulu” Demirol posted a 6-2-7 K-D-A ratio for Immortals.

Turkey’s Irfan Berk “Armut” Turek recorded an 6-1-8 K-D-A ratio for Dignitas. The United States’ Cristian “Palafox” Palafox guided Counter Logic Gaming at 8-1-4.
