The Portland Timbers signed veteran defender Eric Miller to a one-year deal on Saturday with a club option for 2024.

Miller, 30, has started 130 of 158 games played for five clubs during nine previous MLS seasons. He has no goals and two assists.

Miller spent the past three seasons with Nashville SC. He appeared in 24 games (14 starts) in 2022.

Miller was the fifth overall pick of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by CF Montreal. He spent two seasons with Montreal (2014-15), followed by stints with the Colorado Rapids (2016-17), Minnesota United (2018-19), New York City FC (2019) and Nashville.

He has one assist in seven career playoff matches (six starts).

Portland’s season opener against visiting Sporting Kansas City was initially scheduled for Saturday night but instead will be played Monday night due to severe winter weather conditions.
