Newly acquired infielder Luis Arraez earned his first victory of the season, defeating his new team in salary arbitration on Thursday.

Arraez will earn $6.1 million in 2023 while the Miami Marlins — by way of Minnesota — had filed at $5 million.

The Twins initially filed the $5 million figure before trading Arraez to the Marlins on Jan. 20, and the number doesn’t change.

The Twins dealt the 2022 American League batting champion to Miami for starting pitcher Pablo Lopez and two others.

Arraez played in 144 games in 2022, his fourth season with the Twins. He batted .316 with 173 hits, including 31 doubles and eight home runs, and 49 RBIs. He walked 50 times and struck out just 43, and he also was named to his first All-Star team.

In 389 games in Minnesota, Arraez hit .314 with 14 home runs, 132 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .374.

He will be under team control with the Marlins until 2026.
