NCAAB: Hunter Dickinson leads Michigan over Minnesota

Hunter Dickinson had 23 points and nine rebounds to lead Michigan to a 60-56 victory against Minnesota in Big Ten action Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Kobe Bufkin scored 12 points and Dug McDaniel had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Wolverines (11-8, 5-3), who remained unbeaten at home in conference play.

Ta’lon Cooper had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Jamison Battle scored 14 points and Dawson Garcia added 13 to lead the Golden Gophers (7-11, 1-7).

Minnesota trailed by nine with 3:02 left after a basket by Bufkin, but the Golden Gophers went on a 6-0 run to cut their deficit to 55-52 with 35.4 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing inbounds, Battle was called for an intentional foul on Will Tschetter, who hit two free throws to give Michigan a 57-52 lead.

Minnesota stole the ball on the inbounds, but following a miss, Michigan rebounded the ball and took a 58-52 lead with 20.8 seconds left on a free throw by Terrance Williams.

Bufkin gave Michigan a 60-54 lead on a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds left.

The Wolverines shot just 36.7 percent for the game, including 14.3 percent (2 of 14) from 3-point range. The Golden Gophers shot 40.4 percent, missed 17 shots from behind the arc and turned the ball over 15 times.

Michigan made 14 free throws, compared to just four for Minnesota.

The game was tied 23-23 at the intermission.

Garcia’s 3-pointer gave the Golden Gophers a 26-23 lead to start the half, but Michigan quickly surged ahead.

The Wolverines went on an 8-0 run to take a 31-26 lead with 16:19 remaining, and after Minnesota tied the game at 31-31 with 14:55 left, Michigan went on an 8-2 run to grab a 39-33 lead with 12:33 remaining.

Michigan built its lead to 43-35 with 9:12 left before Minnesota answered with five straight to make it 43-40 with 7:29 remaining.
