Seth “Scump” Abner announced Tuesday that he’s retiring immediately and not at the end of the Call of Duty season as he previously said he would.

The OpTic Texas star and Call of Duty legend made the announcement at a private retirement party, a video of which he posted to social media.

“For the supporters that may be mad or upset at me and my decision, I’m sorry. I promise I’ll make it up,” said Scump, a 27-year-old from Pennsylvania. “I’ll be attending events still and meeting people, which I couldn’t really do as a player.”

In his announcement, Scump said Canada’s Brandon “Dashy” Otell will take his place in the starting lineup, which the organization confirmed on Twitter. OpTic Texas said the new lineup consists of Dashy, Indervir “Illey” Dhaliwal of Canada, Cuyler “Huke” Garland and Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro.

“I hope people are happy with the new roster at the very least, I think you guys are going to be absolutely disgusting,” Scump said. “After seeing (Shottzy) and (Huke) as a sub duo it was kind of an easy decision. I’m not fast like that anymore.”

The new OpTic Texas roster will debut Friday in the Call of Duty Major 2 against the Seattle Surge. The season opened last month with the Major 1, and the team was eliminated in the group stage.

Forbes named Scump to its 30 Under 30 list for 2022. He is a two-time Major League Gaming X Games gold medalist, was named the “Best Console Player” at the 2017 Esports Industry Awards and has made more than $900,000 in tournaments.
