Travis Konecny posted his second career hat trick to lift the host Philadelphia Flyers past the Washington Capitals 5-3 on Wednesday.

Scott Laughton added one goal and two assists and Owen Tippett had one goal and one assist for the Flyers, who have won six of seven.

Philadelphia goaltender Carter Hart made 26 saves.

Garnet Hathaway, Marcus Johansson and T.J. Oshie scored for the Capitals. Washington goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 31 shots.

The Flyers went ahead 1-0 at 7:26 of the first period when Laughton connected on a nasty slap shot on the power play.

Alex Ovechkin skated in from center ice all alone but was denied by Hart at 10:38.

Washington equalized with 53.4 seconds remaining when Nick Jensen sent a crisp pass to Hathaway, who deflected the puck off his skate and past Hart.

Konecny scored with 32.5 seconds to go for a 2-1 advantage and a 10-game points streak (12 goals, eight assists).

Konecny and Tippett each had solid scoring chances early in the second period but Kuemper made two stellar saves.

The Flyers controlled tempo and possession midway through the second with the bulk of the scoring opportunities.

After killing off a penalty, the Capitals created a couple of good chances, highlighted by Evgeny Kuznetsov’s shot from point blank range at 17:23.

The Flyers took a 3-1 lead at 5:31 of the third when Tippett ripped a wrist shot past Kuemper.

Tony DeAngelo was whistled for slashing Washington’s Sonny Milano at 6:38 yet Konecny was able to score short-handed at 7:28 for a 4-1 advantage.

The Capitals closed within 4-2 when Johansson took advantage of an errant Ivan Provorov pass and capitalized at 9:18.

Oshie scored on the backhand at 14:42 as the Capitals sliced the deficit to 4-3.

Kuemper was pulled for an extra skater at 18:07 and Oshie was called for hooking Joel Farabee 34 seconds later.

Konecny completed his hat trick with his 24th goal, an empty-netter, with 12.3 seconds left.
