Forward Patrick Kane will sit out his second consecutive game with a lower-body injury on Sunday when the Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames.

Kane sustained the injury on a hit from San Jose Sharks forward Evgeny Svechnikov on New Year’s Day. He played in a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, then sat out Chicago’s 2-0 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Friday.

“We’re going to give him one more game,” Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said on Sunday. “At this point we have three days this week (until the team plays on Thursday) and he has a scheduled treatment he’s doing this week. I think it’ll give him the proper rest and he’ll feel more comfortable.

“He can move out there but if he gets that one little bang, we don’t want to go through a game and we lose him and have 11 forwards again against a strong team tonight.”

Kane, 34, has team-leading totals in assists (20) and points (27) in 37 games this season.

A former Hart Trophy recipient and three-time Stanley Cup champion, Kane has recorded 1,207 points (437 goals, 770 assists) in 1,144 career games since being selected by the Blackhawks with the top overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft.
