NBA: NBA fines Grizzlies’ Ja Morant $35K after outburst

The NBA fined Memphis star Ja Morant $35,000 on Saturday for his confrontation with an official earlier this week in Minneapolis.

The incident occurred with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies’ 109-101 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Morant confronted and directed inappropriate language toward a game official after being assessed a technical foul and also failed to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection, according to a league statement from the office of NBA head of basketball operations Joe Dumars.

Morant, 23, is averaging 28.2 points, 7.3 assists and 6.4 rebounds through 19 games this season.

He was the Rookie of the Year in 2019-20 and the NBA’s Most Improved Player and an All-Star in 2021-22. He has career averages of 21.8 points, 7.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 206 games (all starts) since the Grizzlies picked him No. 2 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.
