Taxi Driver in Rome Sexually Assaults Two US Students on Their Way Home ‘From a Night Out’, Reports Say

A 34-year-old cab driver was detained after he reportedly raped two American students near their lodging in Rome as they were returning after an evening out last month. The two women were allegedly attacked by Antonio Macri on October 14.

After leaving a bar, they took a taxi to return to their accommodations in Trastevere. One of the women felt sick as soon as they exited the vehicle. The 34-year-old, who was also a cab driver, was accused of seizing the chance to attack the two women, coming up behind them and striking each one separately.

One of the two women was able to capture images and video of him. On Tuesday, the 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of suspected sexual assault.

According to magistrate Angela Gerardi, Macri took advantage of the young women’s physical attributes. She claimed that after drinking, both women found it more difficult to resist his assault. He allegedly jumped on the second woman after assaulting the first. The first woman was simultaneously capturing pictures and video.

This was evidence of an extreme and total inability on the part of the accused to control his own instincts, she said in her note. In her note, she stated that this was proof of the accused’s absolute and total inability to control his own instincts. They escaped the driver and called for help.
