MLS: Union trade F Sergio Santos to FC Cincinnati

The Philadelphia Union traded forward Sergio Santos to FC Cincinnati on Friday in exchange for at least $300,000 in 2022 general allocation money.

The Union could receive up to an additional $625,000 in GAM if certain performance and contract incentives are met. Philadelphia would also retain up to 50 percent of any future trade fee Cincinnati receives for Santos’ rights.

Santos, 27, has one goal and three assists in 11 games (eight starts) this season for the Union. Since joining the club in 2019, the Brazilian has 19 goals and seven assists in 75 matches (47 starts).

“We want to thank Sergio for his time spent with the Philadelphia Union,” said Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a news release. “He played a major role in our first-ever playoff win and his charisma has contributed to many memorable moments over the past few seasons. We wish him all the best in this next chapter.”

Philadelphia originally signed Santos in December 2018 from Audax Italiano of Chile’s Primera Division.
