Is Google’s Long-Awaited Pixel Watch On Its Way?

Although there have been lots of stories about it for years, anticipation for the upcoming Alphabet smartwatch is once again building.

There is a lot of hope right now, with Google IO 2022 reportedly slated for May and Google’s CEO saying that new products from the company will be shown unveiled, especially in light of numerous recent Pixel Watch leaks. The launch is expected to be a major showcase for Wear OS 3, much like Pixel phones are for the Android operating system, demonstrating how the Google software should perform on a native device.

Google’s long-rumored Pixel Watch, the first own-brand smart wearable, has been reportedly seen in leaked photographs. It is claimed to have a circular display and digital crown. The photos were taken by a person who discovered the watch and straps abandoned in a restaurant earlier this year, according to reports.

The watch is scheduled to be officially announced at Google’s I/O event next month, and the images appear to confirm the many rumors that have been circulating in recent months, reports say.

The photos show a simple design centered on a circular display, complete with a digital crown and Google bands similar to those seen on the Apple Watch. There are unique Google bands, comparable to Apple’s sports bands, that are meant to fit this watch particularly. They could be made of the same material as Apple’s sports bands. There are blue and black rubbery bands with a semi-circular end that attach directly to the watch case in the photos.

Also, according to Fitbit, the Pixel watch will have Fitbit integrations, bringing some of the smart tracking capabilities to the Pixel brand.

When they tried to boot up the watch, it did not go past the Google logo launch screen, indicating that no OS was loaded, according to the source behind the leak. It was created alongside the Wear OS 3 operating system, which was created in collaboration with Samsung, implying that it will include deep integration, akin to Apple’s ecosystem and the current Pixel phones.

The actual release date for the rumored Google Pixel Watch is unknown — only guesses based on leaks have been made. Unique Google bands, similar to Apple’s sports bands, are designed to fit this watch specifically. It is possible that they are composed of the same material as Apple’s athletic bands, reports say. In the photographs, there are blue and black rubbery bands with a semi-circular end that are attached to the watch case directly.

Insider claims to have spoken to people familiar with the topic who say it will happen in 2022, and that the big day could be May 26, 2022 — possibly during Google IO 2022, multiple outlets said.

The wearable has also been detected in a carrier’s inventory system in the United States, indicating that it is being prepared for sale, making a May launch more feasible.

According to one rumor, the ‘Pixel Watch Fit’ will cost around $400 (around £315 / AU$555). It would be comparable to the Apple Watch 7, however, it is unclear whether this is the primary Pixel Watch or a spin-off.
